Science Museum & GalleryThe Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts had founded the Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts at the end of the 70-ies of the 20thcentury. The rights and the duties of the founder are exercised by SASA. Since its foundation the Gallery is not independent, but a unit within the framework of the Academy. The Gallery is managed by the director pursuant to the decisions passed by the Gallery’s Expert Council.
The core activity of the Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts is organization of study, problem-oriented, topical, retrospective, monographic exhibitions in the sphere of art, science and culture, issuing of publications, organization of lectures related to the exhibitions, collection and-safe keeping of items of visual arts owned by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
Besides the standing musical programme – concerts, the Gallery also organizes lectures – accompanied by film and slide projections, promotions, expert gatherings, awarding of prizes from the Ivan Tabakovic Fund, etc.
Located in the strict center of the old city, in the pedestrian zone, between several museums, faculties, libraries, galleries and foreign cultural centers, the SASA Gallery is one of the most frequented galleries in the country. The average number of visitors of a single exhibition is around 30,000. The average annual number of visitors of exhibitions is around 180,000.
The Gallery’s exhibition room is open, during the concertseason, every day except Mondays, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. (from April 15 until October 15, from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.), Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. When no concerts are performed at the Gallery, outside the concert season, the Gallery is open to the visitors of exhibitions every day from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
The concerts at the Gallery are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 p.m., and the concert season lasts from the beginning of October until the end of June.
